Row 1 (Base Row): Double crochet (dc) in the 3rd chain from the hook and each chain across. You should have 28 double crochets across.
Chain 1, turn.
Row 2 (Weaving Begins): Half double crochet (hdc) in each of the first 2 dc.
Skip the next 2 dc, and work fptr in the following 2 dc. Now, working behind the 2 fptr stitches you just made, fptr in the 2 previously skipped dc.
Repeat from * to * across the row until you reach the last 2 dc.
Hdc in each of the last 2 dc.
Chain 1, turn.
Row 3 (Single Crochet Row): Single crochet (sc) in each stitch across.
Chain 1, turn.
Row 4 (Weaving Continues): Hdc in each of the first 4 sc.
Skip the next 2 fptr (from Row 2), and work fptr in the next 2 fptr (2 rows below, in Row 2). Now, working in the opposite direction, work a fptr in the first of the 2 previously skipped fptr stitches, then in the second.
Repeat from * to * across to the last 4 sc of Row 3. Hdc in each of the last 4 sc.
Chain 1, turn.
Row 5 (Single Crochet Row): Sc in each stitch across.
Chain 1, turn.
Row 6 (More Weaving): Hdc in each of the first 2 sc. Skip the next 2 hdc (from Row 4), and fptr in the next 2 fptr (2 rows below). Working behind the 2 fptr just made, work a fptr in the first and second skipped hdc. Repeat from * to * across until you reach the last 6 stitches. Hdc in the last 2 sc of Row 5.
Chain 1, turn.
Row 7 (Single Crochet Row): Sc in each stitch across.
Chain 1, turn.
To maintain the pattern, repeat Rows 4-7. Keep in mind, whenever you finish your project, always end with a single crochet row for a clean, finished look.
