*In the next space, make 2 double crochets, chain 1, and skip 2 stitches; repeat from * around.

Round 4: Using your next color, join in the top of the first double crochet from any set of 2 double crochets in Round 3. Chain 1, then make 1 single crochet (sc) in the same stitch. Make 1 single crochet in the next stitch. Make 1 spike stitch in the chain-1 space by inserting your hook between the 2 double crochets from Round 2.

*Make 1 single crochet in the next 2 stitches, then 1 spike stitch; repeat from * 10 more times.

Slip stitch (sl st) to the first single crochet to join the round. Cut the yarn and fasten it off. (You should have 24 single crochets and 12 spike stitches.)

Rounds 5 – 7: Using your next color, join in any stitch. Chain 1, then make 1 single crochet (sc) in each stitch around. Slip stitch (sl st) to the first single crochet to join the round.

Weave in all the ends of your yarn. Your ball will start to curve a little after Round 5. If you’re using DK weight yarn, 1-2 rounds of single crochet might be enough. Check the piece against your Crocheted Christmas Ball Ornaments; it should fit with a little stretch.

Finishing
