Pattern Notes
Pattern repeat: Multiple of 8 + 1.
This allows you to customize the size of your blanket easily—simply chain any multiple of 8 for your width, then add one additional chain before beginning.
Harlequin Blanket Pattern
Begin: Chain 81 with Cobalt (blue).
Row 1
In the 5th chain from hook, work [3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC].
Skip the next 3 chains, SC in the following chain.
Repeat:
Skip 3 ch, [3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC] in next ch, skip 3 ch, SC in next ch.
Continue to the end, pulling through the final stitch with Rice Paper (cream).
Row 2
CH 3, turn.
Skip first SC. Work DC3TOG over the next 3 DC.
CH 7, skip 1 chain, DC6TOG over the next 6 DC (leaving the SC unworked).
Repeat from * to * across.

CH 3, turn.
Work 3 DC into the space formed beside the DC3TOG.
SC around the CH-1 space of the row below, enclosing the CH-7 loop.
In the center space of each DC6TOG cluster, work [3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC].
Repeat from * to * across.
At the end, work 3 DC into the space near the final DC3TOG, then DC into the turning chain.
Pull through with blue.
Row 4
CH 4, turn.
Skip first DC.
Work a DC6TOG over the next 6 DC (leaving the SC unworked), CH 7, skip 1 chain.
Repeat from * to * across.
Finish with CH 3, SC into the top of the turning chain.
Row 5
CH 1, turn. Skip the first SC and the CH-3.
Work [3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC] in the center of each DC6TOG.
SC into the chain space one row below, enclosing the CH-7.
Repeat across and end with an SC in the first of the 4 turning chains.
Pull through with cream.
Repeat Pattern
Continue repeating Rows 2–5, switching colors as desired and following your diamond layout.
For the final half-diamond row, where a CH 7 would normally be used:
→ Replace with CH 3, SC around the stitch below, CH 3.
This adjustment helps prepare the blanket for working an even row of DC around the edge for your border.
Finishing
Weave in all loose ends with a tapestry needle.
Add your favorite border style—DC, post-stitch ribbing, or a simple SC edging looks beautiful with this pattern.
