Notes about pattern

ch 3 counts as st at beginning of each round
The new 2019 Caron Cotton Cakes are over twice the size of the original Cakes. The pattern as written will use 2 of the old Caron Cotton Cakes — 7 oz / 422 yds total. If you make with 1 of the new Cakes you could make larger and add several rounds to the sides of the bag).

Pattern Instructions Bag Base:

Round 1: Begin with a magic circle, chain 3 (counts as the first stitch), work 11 double crochet stitches into the magic circle, and then slip stitch to the top of the initial chain 3. (12 stitches)

Round 2: Chain 3, work 1 double crochet in the same stitch, work 2 double crochet stitches in each stitch around, and slip stitch to the top of the initial chain 3. (24 stitches)

Round 3: Chain 3, work 1 double crochet in the same stitch, work 1 double crochet in the next stitch, work 2 double crochet stitches in the following stitch; repeat between * * until the last stitch, work 1 double crochet in the last stitch, and slip stitch to the top of the initial chain 3. (36 stitches)

Round 4: Chain 3, work 1 double crochet in the same stitch, work 1 double crochet in the next 2 stitches, work 2 double crochet stitches in the following stitch; repeat between * * until the last 2 stitches, work 1 double crochet in each of the last 2 stitches, and slip stitch to the top of the initial chain 3. (48 stitches)
